A fabulous antique Suffragette brooch from the early 1900s fashioned in 15ct gold with a flowing, Art Nouveau design decorated with seed pearls, an amethyst and a shamrock with heart cut peridot leaves and a central diamond.
Jewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white was often worn in support of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase “Give Women Votes!”
The brooch has remained in excellent condition and is a wonderful token from such a pivotal turning point in British history.
